Rivers to Reef

Jul 7

Join this Professional Development Workshop

The state of Georgia has 52 major watersheds that all lead to the ocean. These watersheds begin and travel through some of the most beautiful places in Georgia, from The Blue Ridge Mountains all the way to Gray’s Reef off the Eastern coast. The workshop begins in Atlanta to learn about water in your homes. The group will then set off to follow the Altamaha River watershed. Educators will come to investigate, discover and create connections between inland rivers and offshore habitats to then bring all that they have learned into their classroom curriculum. During this professional development workshop, you will be learning from your fellow participants, Georgia Aquarium staff and experts at local sites. Kennesaw State University Faculty will also join in providing aspects of the professional development and will be involved in program evaluation and research.

The workshop will be from July 7-11 starting in Atlanta, traveling down to Savannah for Thursday and Friday. Participants will return to Atlanta on Friday evening. All attendees are required to attend a virtual session on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 PM and an in-person session hosted at Georgia Aquarium on Saturday, June 21 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Travel, Room and Board, Meals and onsite transportation are included during July 7-11.

Applicants must be current teachers for grades 4th- 12th who are responsible for teaching science/STEM (for at least a part of the day). Educators working in public schools, especially Title 1 Schools, are encouraged to apply.

Applications are due by April 18. Selected participants will be notified April 25.
