Georgia Aquarium Hosts Second Annual Display of Classic Cars

1961 Mako Shark featured in “Oceans & Autos” at Georgia Aquarium

Atlanta (August 8, 2011) –

Join Georgia Aquarium Oct. 22 – 23 for the second annual “Oceans & Autos” Classic Car Show, featuring amazing museum-quality American and European cars represented from the 1930s to the present day. Free with general admission, guests, automobile collectors and car enthusiasts alike can enjoy some of the nation’s most extraordinary vehicles set against the enchanting backdrop of whale sharks and beluga whales.

This year’s collection is “making waves” with one of the rarest and most extraordinary examples of American automobile design, the 1961 Mako Shark concept vehicle. Resembling a species of sea life habitants, this classic car is regarded as one of the most influential in history and was the inspiration for the stunning 1963-1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The Mako Shark vehicle has been generously loaned for display by the General Motors Heritage Museum of Sterling Heights, Michigan and is rarely on exhibit anywhere outside of the Heritage Museum.

In addition to the Mako Shark, collectors from across the Southeast will display nearly 40 exceptionally rare examples of global automotive design and manufacturing. While the main display of vehicles will be centered in the grand Oceans Ballroom, cars will also be displayed throughout the Aquarium, with exhibitors available to provide more information and vehicle background to guests.

Other notable vehicles scheduled to show include:
1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428
1967 AC Cobra 427 Roadster
1966 Ford Mustang Convertible
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
1965 Shelby Fast Back
1959 Buick Lesabre
1957 Cadillac El Dorado
1956 Thunderbird
1952 Jaguar XK120
1935 Morgan MX 455 3-Wheeler
