AT&T Dolphin Tales Welcomes One Millionth Guest

Georgia Aquarium’s newest gallery achieves milestone and receives accolade

Atlanta (June 14, 2012) – On June 14, nearly 14 months after Georgia Aquarium’s largest expansion to date opened its doors, AT&T Dolphin Tales entertained and inspired its one millionth visitor. Since opening on April 2, 2011, the AT&T Dolphin Tales show and gallery has served as a moving tribute to the beauty and grace of dolphins, using entertainment to enlighten audiences with dynamic performances by a cast of charismatic dolphins, trainers and a live actor. Georgia Aquarium has welcomed more than 16 million guests since the Aquarium’s original November 2005 grand opening.

“Reaching this milestone is a reflection of the dedication, as well as a compliment to the guest experience, that is provided by our staff and volunteers,” said David Kimmel, president and chief operating officer of Georgia Aquarium.  “Through this memorable and educational experience, Georgia Aquarium seeks to educate audiences on the importance of embracing aquatic animals, motivating viewers to care about the challenges they face in their natural environment and inspiring them to make positive environmental choices.”

Dedicated to inspiring memorable connections between humans and dolphins, AT&T Dolphin Tales strives to create a greater understanding of these magnificent animals and to develop a lasting legacy for the conservation of dolphins and other marine mammals.  The gallery and show seek to underscore Georgia Aquarium’s commitment to educating the public about the aquatic realm in an immersive learning environment.

Georgia Aquarium believes that exposure to these animals through its AT&T Dolphin Tales show and gallery and its many other programs, combined with the sharing of key information, will inspire guests to make positive choices about conservation efforts throughout their lives.

On Saturday, the WSB documentary “Georgia Aquarium Dolphin Project” won an Emmy for outstanding achievement in a television news and program specialty for a health/science segment.

“We are excited to be part of an award winning team and for our contributions to be recognized in such a public way,” said Scott Higley vice president of marketing and communications of Georgia Aquarium. Higley oversaw the documentary process as it pertained to the Aquarium.  Additionally, the Aquarium’s development team won an Emmy for their work on the short animated film “The SEA I SEE.”

AT&T Dolphin Tales is now part of the Aquarium’s all-inclusive Total Ticket. With this ticket, Georgia Aquarium provides visitors with general admission to all six permanent galleries of the Aquarium, the spectacular AT&T Dolphin Tales show, Deepo’s Undersea 3D Wondershow and a special exhibition – currently featuring “Frogs – A Chorus of Colors” through 2012.
