Georgia Aquarium's Pirate Days Set Sail Across the Seven Seas

Celebrating the internationally acclaimed "Talk like a Pirate" day through a weekend of fun and free admission for buccaneers dressed in costumes

Atlanta (September 12, 2011) – Walk the plank into Atlanta’s own ocean and journey alongside aquatic experts for Pirate Days, a weekend of pirate-themed festivities and events helping swashbucklers to better navigate and understand the seven seas, along with the creatures that inhabit them. Festivities will take place Sept. 24-25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and children 12 and under will receive free admission when dressed in pirate costume.

The world’s largest aquarium is celebrating Pirate Days with activities, giveaways and games for the entire family. Celebrations invite guests to dive in and enjoy special pirate costume contests, parades, “treasure hunt” extravaganzas, pirate-themed arts and crafts stations, buccaneer games and more. Young pirates will also receive free activity books, temporary tattoos and can take photos at the pirate ship photo station to commemorate the weekend.

Fans and followers of Georgia Aquarium’s social media networks can digitally dive into the fun through quirky contests and giveaways. Scavengers can submit their best pirate jokes for a chance to win booty on the Aquarium’s Facebook page and Twitter account. Contest details will be updated through these accounts.

Pirate Days encourages families to join the worldwide movement towards conservation and awareness of our oceans. Georgia Aquarium strives to be the leading facility for aquatic animal conservation, telling a global water story through six thrilling galleries and over 70 individual exhibits.  The Aquarium is extending that message throughout Pirate Days.

Pirate Days will take place in Georgia Aquarium’s Atrium and is complimentary with the purchase of general admission tickets or annual passes. Activities and giveaways are complimentary and based on availability.

*1 child in pirate costume receives FREE general admission with each paid adult or Annual Pass Member, Sept. 24 & 25, 2011 only.
